Akshay Kumar's new found passion 'Parkour' By Subhash K Jha, 15 June, 2009 Akshay Kumar has found a passion to rival his love for the martial arts. He has developed a fascination for the French sport Parkour, which is the art of movement. Not that he’s a stranger to it. The star known for his undying love for outdoor sports , first acquired a taste for it when he tried it for a cola ad.
Now, after pursuing it for a couple of years, Akshay is all set to pursue it professionally, going as far as to get the best Parkour trainers in the world to take him to the next, more serious and professional level of the game.
Says a source close to the ever-athletic star, “Akshay has already taught himself all there’s to learn about Parkour. He loves the back-to-basic features of Parkour where you are on your own without external props.”
However, fans desirous of seeing Akshay pursue Parkour on screen, are in for a disappointment. Apparently the star has for now decided to use his developing Parkour skills only for his ads.
Not surprising, since the two films so far where he practiced Parkour, Tashan and Chandni Chowk to China have been the biggest disappointments of Akshay’s career. So let’s just say, those who want to see Akshay jump buildings from the highest floor and climb walls to get to the other side (these are part of the Parkour discipline) will have to make do with his ads and apparently the television game-show Fear Factor where Akshay has done Parkour.
Stunts, action and adventure-sports go hand-in-hand with Akshay Kumar. At least they used to, until Akshay’s son Aarav was born. Then he decided to play safe, for his son’s sake. But now Aarav urges his dad to regain his action image. “Anything my son wants, my son gets. I’ve always wanted to pursue new skills. To better myself is the only way to face up to the competition. I never look into the mirror in the morning. I look at the pictures of the new talented heroes who’ve come in. So yes, I’m taking my Parkour to the next level, which by the way is a really tough level to go to,” said Akshay before flying off with his wife and son for a 20-day holiday. Akshay talks about the extrovert Simrita (Kareena's screen name), his long lost co-star Aftab Shivdasani, fun being an incompatible couple, his lean figure, his sometimes violent fans and why he would also do films like '8 X 10 Tasveer' besides his comic capers.
Q. What happens when you meet an extrovert like Simrita?
I'd actually be offended. I'd not like to speak to that person and just walk off. I'd never try to be near her at all.
Q. 'Kambakkht Ishq' looks like a mad comic caper.
Not at all. First of all, it's not a comic caper. It's a romantic comedy. Yes, it has many comic moments but it's also got love infused in it. Too much of romance is there in the film. It's all about one-upmanship between the two sexes and who is dominant. It's a superiority complex. The kind of dialogues we have with each other is the kind of dialogues you will relate to. Somewhere or the other it'll remind you of the similar type of conversation you've had with a woman in your life. There aren't many films of such nature which are being made in Hindi cinema. I believe that Men are from Mars and Women are from Heaven.
Q. You've worked with Aftab Shivdasani in 'Awara Pagal Deewana'. How is Affy now after you've last seen him a good, four to five years ago?
Affy can play these kinds of roles very easily like he played in 'Awara Pagal Deewana'. He fits the 'bechara', 'pyaar ka maara' type of roles very well. You feel sorry for his character in the film. He is very true to his character in whichever film he performs. I loved him in 'Kasoor' where he played an obsessed lover alongside Lisa Ray. He was superb in the film.
Q. What's the fun in being an incompatible couple?
The fun is what women think about men and what men think about women. We just say it openly about it. We curse each other which is great. We pull our leg, disagree with every word we say and that's fun.
Q. Lean and fit is your fitness statement. You're fit at 40 unlike others who're still pumping iron to stay in shape.
I don't think that's right. I believe in having an athletic body more than a bulkier body. I am too natural when it comes to fitness. I do not pick up weights. Obviously, a body like me does help in terms of an action film and stunts. Most of my stunts are performed by me because of this athletic body. If I had bulging biceps, I could only bash somebody up.
Q. Why is there so much expectation surrounding your release always?
Because my fans expect a lot of fun and entertainment from Akshay Kumar. They've seen me in my last five years doing mad comedy. That's the reason why. They come in search of masala, they come in search of laughter, they come in search of emotions here and there and they've got everything to take back home with them after watching my comic films. And when they didn't get '8 X 10 Tasveer', they got disappointed. No masti, fun, laughter. I need to do different films to get into a different mode. Films like '8 X 10 Tasveer' satisfy me as an actor. I'm very proud of Nagesh. Q. What about your fans? I'm sure they've got a bit violent sometimes?
Oh yes. Fans in the overseas can get violent sometimes, especially women fans. They pounce on you with their long nails scratching you behind your neck. It's happened to me quite a few times now when I've visited the US or the UK. Of course, I don't argue with Twinkle when I go back home with such scratch marks made by my female fans. I also remember the time when my hands were bleeding when I shook hands with a female fan. She had a blade in between her fingers which you can't see. Such are some fans. Some love to hate me I guess. But realistically, I believe that that's the way some of the fans show love to you.
Q. Which is your favourite Sylvester Stallone film you've seen?
I like his last Rocky film. He was absolutely fantastic in it. I didn't ask him which film he had seen of mine because I was too ashamed of asking that question as I suspected the answer to be 'No'.
Q. Did you guys hang around after the shoot was over? Denise, you, Kareena, Sylvester, Brandon?
No, we didn't hang around together. In Hollywood, you just work. But yes, we did chat a lot. Denise was more interested in knowing about India. I also mentioned to her that India is a Bollywood crazy country but I told her that people will go to the theatres to watch 'Kambakkht Ishq' more than the English films she has been a part of.

What’s parkour?
Parkour (the art of movement) is an activity that aims at movement from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. A characteristic of parkour is efficiency. Practitioners move not only as rapidly as they can, but also in the most direct and efficient way possible. Parkour also influences one’s thought process by enhancing self-confidence and critical-thinking skills that allow one to overcome everyday physical and mental obstacles.

The two stars of the movie are likely to charge a bomb if their film is successful. ‘Kambakht Ishq' is one of the most awaited films of the year especially after the rift between multiplexes and producers.
If ‘Kambakht Ishq' succeeds at the box-office, Akshay and Kareena Kapoor will hike their price, which is cause of concern for many producers.
Producers are hurrying up in signing these stars before the film releases to avoid that ‘extra' money they might have to shell out after ‘Kambakht Ishq' succeeds.
‘Kambakht Ishq' is the first big budget film to hit the theatres this year slated to release on July 3.

в первой статье - про то, что после Kambakht Ishq Акшай с Кариной якобы собираются поднять свои гонорары, если фильм, который в общем-то очень ожидаем зрителями, станет хитом. (а то, наверное, Акшай с Кариной им об этом сказали поспешили радостно поделиться о намерении поднять ставки ). и продюссеры якобы спешат подписать с ними контракты теперь, до выхода фильма, чтобы сэкономить.
вторая - про то, что фаны мрут как жаждут видеть акшаевский паркур, но поскольку фильмы с элементами паркура в прокате провалилсиь (Ташан и Чандни Чок), этот стиль можно увидеть в исполнении АК только в рекламах. С рождением сына Акшай стал более разумным с трюками, но теперь сын подрос и требует у папы вернуться к имиджу экшен-хиро. под девизом "всё для сына" Акшай и наяривает свои спортивные достижения. а по утрам он, оказывается, не в зеркало смотрит, а на фотки молодых конкурентов которые наступают на пятки и заставляют быть все время в форме...

'Kambakkht Ishq' director praises Akshay Kumar New Delhi (IANS): Two of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's big budget films may have bombed this year, but it doesn't worry director Sabbir Khan who has cast him in his ready-to-release mega-budget directorial debut movie Kambakkht Ishq.
"Failures of Akshay's movies don't affect me at all because a movie is a movie...and as a director, you just want to know whether the audiences want to see it or not," Khan told IANS in an interview.
"Everybody goes through ups and downs. An actor's last success doesn't mean anything for a director...That way we wouldn't have had any more movies of Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan or Tom Cruise," he added.
Both of Akshay's much-hyped releases this year, Chandni Chowk To China and 8X10 Tasveer, had bombed at the box-office.
"I think whosoever's worked with Akshay will want to repeat him. He becomes an instant favourite because of the person he is. He is a genuine human being and a brilliant actor," said Khan who earlier worked as an assistant director in an Akshay starrer, the 2004 comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
